Appartement Les Rocailles à Anzère, Valais - 4 personnes, 2 Couchages

« Ups and downs »

The three buildings called Hôtel Les Rocailles are shabby, particularly B next door, a restaurant with indoor pool which are closed down. Our apartment was advertised as UPPER ground floor so we went up from the entrance to find it ........... all the windows are directly on level with the grass outside and the ground floor terrace is below that level due to the steep slope. Consequently, clearer instructions and/or Interhome marking of the apartment would have avoided a couple of telephone calls to ascertain if we were trying to enter the right rental!
We had a cold week in June and the apartment was chilly, requiring an extra layer of clothing. The place was spotlessly clean and adequately equipped for basic cooking. One is out on the terrace with a glimpse of sunshine - warmer than inside - and the view of the Valaisan Alps opposite is magnificent.
Anzère is run down and the gondolas were not functioning last week in June so no way to have lunch at Pas de Maimbré unless one wants to climb a mountain. There is a flat walk along the "bisse de Sion", an irrigation channel, and signs indicate one can continue to Crans-Montana. We did the excursion by car and it took a while. The spa in Anzère is pleasant although small and the outdoor terrace jacuzzi is luxurious. We had it to ourselves and marvelled at the snowy peaks. To me, Anzère represents a one/two day excursion in summer.
